It's Week 1 of my summer writing goal of 233,000 words! I'm dividing this 233,000 word count goal among my novels as follows:
Paper Flowers bonus chapters: 6,000 words left
The Improbability of Forever (Kismet #2): 28,000 words left Infiltration (Ballet Blog #9): 31,000 words left Unveil (Unveil #1): 64,000 words left The Back of Wednesday: 80,000 words left Unsaid (Unveil #2): 18,000 words before beginning of school year TBD: 6,000 words before beginning of school year
I'll be chronicling my journey to reach this word count goal as best I can over the summer, divided up by week so my posts aren't too obnoxiously frequent. So here goes Week 1, May 8-14:
WEEKLY WORD COUNT GOAL: 28,000 words May 8:
TODAY I WROTE:
Unveil: 3,529 words The Improbability of Forever: 5,755 words {TOTAL: 9,284 words}
9284 / 233000 (3.98%)
It was a super successful writing day for me. I'm really eager to get IoF finished because I'm drained as a result of that book and I want to leave well enough alone with the characters. Still, I have nine chapters left and I don't want to disappoint the people reading it, so I'm plowing through :)
I'm way more excited about Unveil, which I'm thinking about entering into SwoonReads for publication once I've written and edited it. We'll see! May 9:
TODAY I WROTE:
nothing :((
9284 / 233000 (3.98%)
Today was my last day of exams & classes, so I had a lot of other things on my mind besides writing. However, I did manage to tweak and finalize my outline for Unveil, and I'm even more excited than before about how the plot plays out. Goal for tomorrow: 1 chapter in Unveil and Infiltration, 2 chapters in The Improbability of Forever, and the 100% finalized outline for Infiltration. It's a lofty goal, but I officially don't have school anymore and I now have the whole day free.
May 10:
TODAY I WROTE:
Unveil: 3,181 words The Improbability of Forever: 3,271 words {TOTAL: 6,452 words}
15736 / 233000 (6.75%)
I didn't quite reach my huge goal from yesterday, but that's okay! I still managed to get some writing done, and it was fun to try out new writing locations (I went to my local bookstore and tried writing there for a change—I usually write in my bedroom.)
Tomorrow's going to be a very busy non-writing day, but I'd still like to get an Infiltration and an Improbability of Forever chapter done. That will leave me with 3 chapters to go for Friday-Sunday, plus the outline for The Back of Wednesday. Sounds doable! May 11:
TODAY I WROTE:
The Improbability of Forever: 3,121 words Infiltration: 2,051 words {TOTAL: 5,172 words}
20908 / 233000 (8.97%)
I met my writing goal for today! Instead of working on the outline for The Back of Wednesday, I decided to work on the more urgent outline, which was for Infiltration. I also tweaked the Improbability of Forever outline and deleted a chapter, so my new word count goal for the week is 25,000 words since there's 1 less chapter to write. I'm anticipating meeting that goal by the end of Saturday but we'll see!
Went back to my local bookstore and knocked out both chapters in under 2 hours. Since there's no WiFi there, it's a really convenient spot to sit and write without distraction and with plenty of inspiration. May 12:
TODAY I WROTE:
Infiltration: 902 words
21810 / 233000 (9.36%)
Today wasn't my most productive writing day, but I'm proud that I sat down and still wrote a little. Infiltration is going well, but I'd like to eventually revamp the whole series and make it a middle grade series instead of borderline YA.
Good news is I'm still on track to meet my writing goal for the week! MAY 13:
TODAY I WROTE:
0 words
21810 / 233000 (9.36%)
I'm not too happy that I have 2 days this week where I didn't write anything, but it's okay. It's been a super busy week for me (and next week will be even busier) life-wise, so I'm not going to stress myself out over writing. As long as I write 2 chapters tomorrow, I'll still be on track to meet my revised goal (25,000 words).
May 14:
TODAY I WROTE:
The Improbability of Forever: 3,020 words Infiltration: 1,290 words {TOTAL: 4,310 words}
26120 / 233000 (11.21%)
I met my goal for the week, which feels pretty great! I'm completely fine with adjusting that goal midweek—my writing is flexible, and as my outline changes my goal should adjust, too. I still haven't changed my summer-wide goal to reflect that shift, but hopefully I won't have to and I'll write the full 233,000 words anyway.
On to week 2!
